New Members Meet at Grange – April 2017

Grand Alliance at Black Crag

Planning a new members’ meet in the Lake District for the first weekend in April seemed a tad optimisic to say the least, as it rained and rained right through March. However we couldn’t have booked better weather – light winds, blue skies and even the odd spot of sunburn all contributed to making this a great weekend for the 13 of us who stayed at Grange Old School for the weekend.

Gillercombe Buttress

Members travelled from Perth, Bristol and a whole range of places in between to enjoy the Lakes in all its spendour. We spread out through Borrowdale on both days of the meet, visiting a range of different crags. The high pressure made it possible for a visit to a high mountain crag, with one team taking in fabulous views from Gillercombe Buttress. The meet also saw ascents of Aphasia at Sergeant Crag Slabs, a range of routes at Black Crag, including Mortician and Grand Alliance, The Crypt and Aberration at Quayfoot Buttress, Guillotine at Reecastle Crag and the Bludgeon at Shepherd’s Crag, to name but a few.

We also managed to consume vast amounts of chilli and Spencer’s increasingly famous white chocolate brownies.
