Mark Vallance

I have just heard from Jan that Mark Vallance, past President, died peacefully on 19th April. She and Jody were with him. Mark had been suffering from Parkinson’s for some time.

We offer our condolences to Jan, Jody, family and friends.

When we hear about arrangements for a memorial service we will post these on the website.

Anyone who’s ever placed a cam owes Mark a lot. I remember the first time I saw him demonstrating his new-fangled Friends on Tomorrow’s World by jumping off Millstone. It wasn’t quite hover boots but it still looked like science fiction when all you’d had was hexes and wires.

Very sad news. It was always a pleasure to see Mark, whether on the crag, in a hut, or at a BMC meeting. I last spoke to him when he was telling me how great the latest set of CC Guidebooks to Pembroke were.

Such sad news. It was always a pleasure to be with Mark on or off the crags. Will miss him a great deal.
