Welcome to the New CC Website

Welcome to the new-look Climbers’ Club website! We hope you enjoy using it and find what you are looking for easily – please send any feedback you have using the form on our contact page.

There’s far more than just a new-look to the site though… Powering the site is a powerful and flexible content management system. This system should help provide a modern and clean presentation that helps club members and non-members find their way around the site easily. The system also aims to make the site much easier to manage and for members to contribute their own content.

At the outset the goals of the website refresh were simple…

Website Redesign Objectives

  • Clean, Modern, and Simple design
A design (and toolset) that forces every page to use a standard template that guarantees a completely consistent experience. While also ensuring we can easily change any aspect of the design in the future.
  • Single Sign-on
Deliver a single login for members-only features, forum, guidebook discounts, booking on to meets, etc. No longer will the forum, members-only pages, etc. have separate login details that have to be remembered. Plus, if you tick the “Remember Me” option when you login, the site (inc. forums etc.) will remember your login saving repetitive login/logout actions every time you visit the site. (Please note, there is no need to logout when you leave the site. Simply login, tick the “Remember Me” option, and enjoy all aspects of the site. Staying logged in does not present a security threat to you or the club.)
You may login on any page that offers special content, e.g. members-only pages or the guidebook shop. Or just visit the Members Login page.
If you have forgotten your username or password please get in touch with the website manager.
  • Enable Members to Manage Content
Committee members, meet leaders, Officers (e.g. Membership Secretary), etc., may all update their own content (with some quick and simple training). The aim here is simple – to get more frequent updates to the site. The CC is a very active club with hundreds of members climbing all over the world, holding dozens of meets each year, frequently creating new or updating existing publications, etc. Lets all contribute and share using the features of this new web site. If you are keen to publish on the site, say by sharing a few words and photographs from your most recent adventure, get in touch with the website manager.
  • Retain all current Features
Ensure that all the features (i.e. guidebooks, huts, meets, tides, and online membership applications) that the Club has invested in are reused. In other words, the new site has all of the features of the old site, quite a few more, and all the improvements mentioned at above!

Getting to know the New Site

The layout of the new site if quite different – but it is designed to be simple to navigate. Here’s an overview of the Home page:

Home

The highlighted areas of this page are:

  • Main Menu
This is the primary mechanism for navigating and finding what you are looking for on the site. The menu item names are hopefully self explanatory, however, here is a brief overview of what you will find under each menu item:

    1. Home – the home, Home, item has no sub-menu items, it simply navigates directly back to the site Home page.
    2. About – below the about menu item you will find links to pages about the club, how and why to become a member, and key club contacts (i.e. committees and hut custodians).
    3. Meets – here you’ll find a detailed calendar of meets (a summary of upcoming meets is shown directly on the Home page and described below), be able to book yourself on to meets, and find published meet reports.
    4. Huts – detailed information about each of the club’s huts can be found here, as well as on-line booking of spaces in the huts. The hut information pages offer interactive mapping, including turn-by-turn directions to help driving to and locating our huts on your first visit. Members will also find details of various reciprocal rights access arrangements to other club’s huts.
    5. Guidebooks – this item provides access to detailed information about all of the club’s publications, the on-line guidebook shop (make sure to login to gain access to discounted member pricing), interactive mapping of many of the key climbing destinations documented in the club’s publications, and a summary of publications that the club is actively preparing.
    6. Information – direct links to all published articles and news articles on the site, a dynamic display of some of our member’s private websites, new route details (these will find their way in to new publications as they are published), tide information to aid climbing on our fantastic and unique sea cliffs, and a wide selection of archive material such as club journals going back to 1898.
    7. Members – a collection of member-only features. Login to gain access to these pages.
    8. Forums – access to discussion forums hosted by the club. You will need to login to access these forums. Also note that the club has a private Facebook page private Facebook group for members to chat, arrange climbing partners, etc. (Contact the Membership Secretary to arrange access to the private members-only Facebook group.)

  • Breadcrumbs
On all pages – except the Home page – you will see a series of breadcrumbs below the menu that provide context of your current location. For example, at the top of this page you may notice the breadcrumbs:
HomeNews › Welcome to the New CC Website

  • Social Media Links
Bragging rights for the club’s social media presence. Have you liked the club on Facebook and followed us on Twitter yet?
