The access as described in the CC Range West Guide is no longer practicable.
The winter storms converted the fishermen’s path onto the north end of Frainslake Beach into a sand cliff, and the army’s attempts at a short diversion have failed.
From the car-pound follow the track straight ahead, not right to towards the radar station. The marked route now follows a land-rover track thru the old mortar range and re-joins the old route at the stream crossing at the south end of the beach (where the 5-bar gate used to be).
It’s actually a LOT easier and quicker than the old route along the beach, although not as scenic!
