Community Action Nepal, in association with the RGS NW Region, are pleased to announce the inaugural Mountain Arts Festival at Rheged Centre, Penrith, Cumbria. The event will be a gathering of writers, thinkers, artists, performers and climbers showing through their art what the hills mean to them.
There will be an Art exhibition of Walking Artists, Painters, Sculptors and Photographers which will be complemented with three days of talks, readings and discussions from many acclaimed writers and speakers and panel debates on the topics of mountain writing and art.
On Sunday 8th November a symposium hosted by the Royal Geographical Society’s NW Region entitled ‘Whose broad, sunlit uplands?’ will bring together a range of noted speakers to discuss how best to manage the uplands in the UK.
There will also be a variety of musical performances over the course of the festival, a Ceilidh lead by Striding Edge, as well as various acrobats and singers from Mongolian Artists to Dean Johnson’s musical biography, ‘Ice Picks and Violets’.
With painting and writing masterclasses, demonstrations of Herdwick wool weaving, a Nepalese Bazaar and a second hand climbing book sale too, there will be over thirty separate events taking place across what promises to be an unmissable weekend.
Opening time: 10.00 am. Closing time varies each day.
