Dagger Attack |
|
Fed up of those dark evenings
when you can’t go climbing outdoors and the exertions on the climbing wall
have b***d your joints. Dig out your Pembroke guide and go on the “dagger
attack”. No this is not the latest police initiative or a perverted form of
winter climbing but an attempt to clear the number of daggers currently in
the Pembroke Guide as part of the push towards the next guidebook. Over the summer Nigel Barry, compiler of the Range West web guide, has collated vast amounts of information on climbing in Pembroke, he now has details of nearly 6,000 routes (compared to about 3,500 in the 1996 guide), as well as DWS and bouldering. In the 1996 guidebook there were 800 routes with no confirmed grade (aka the
“daggers” †). We want to reduce this number and are sure that many of these
routes have been climbed and commented upon. Have you done any of these
routes, what were your thoughts? If you have any information on “daggered” routes in the guide, the 2002 supplement, the Range West web guide or the May Cottage log book please email it (Subject PEMBROKE DAGGERS) to: Second ascents, undergrading, overgrading, dubious description, star rating,
all this information is useful. To start you off here are a few questions:
