Nepal Earthquake

UPDATE:

Ian Wall is working with local communities and in conjunction with the Himalayan Stove Project to direct funds directly to some of the affected areas. Being on the ground and having a Nepalese wife gives him a local perspective on things. He has also been recently active making locals and volunteers alike of the importance of clean water and how to get it cheaply and effectively.

He is posting on his Facebook page since this is the most efficient way of distributing information to a wide audience given the constraints of electricity and Internet access. If people want some local inside info then this is a good place to go. Ian can also be e-mailed on ian@offthewalltrekking.com although responses may not be immediate for obvious reasons.

If members want to direct donations to something a bit more personal and local rather than to the big charities then they can do so via the Himlayan Stove Project.

Community Action Nepal is also working in conjunction with them.

We have just heard from Ian Wall, long standing member and previously huts management, that there has been extensive damage around Kathmandu following an earthquake. Ian now lives out there with his Nepalese wife Sarita – they are thankfully OK. Ian can be contacted by email (details in the handbook and the on-line email directory) assuming electricity and the Internet are working.

Latest news indicates massive devastation to the region and rising death toll. International rescue effort is currently underway.
