CC/Pinnacle Club Joint Meet, Portland - 2-4 Mar 2012

For 2012 we are repeating our highly successful spring joint meet in Portland weekend of 2nd-4th March 2012. Dust off that sport climbing gear and get out on the rock to hone your fitness ready for that Easter 'sun rock' trip. Last year proved that there are few better places to find early season warm rock in Britain than on our sunny south coast, as evidenced by the subsequent CC newsletter article(May 2011) and website pictures (click on front page photo for slideshow). A repeat of this good weather is not guaranteed, however as there are routes of all grades, facing east or west, you can generally follow the sun or shelter from the wind as necessary.

If the weather really isn't fit for climbing there is superb walking along the famous Jurassic coat, or you can explore Chesil beach, or if you want something more adventurous on the climbing front Swanage is less than an hour's drive away.

Once again we have booked the Portland YHA for the weekend (exclusive use) at the same exceptionally reasonable cost (prices held from last year!) of only £14 per night bed and breakfast. This not only gives us luxurious accommodation but also makes for a very sociable meet. If enough people express an interest nearer the time I will also arrange a meal out at a local pub/restaurant on the Saturday night. Additionally a 2 course evening meal is available for £9.95 at the hostel but this must be pre-booked at least 2 weeks in advance.

If anyone would like to make it a longer break the hostel is currently available for one or two nights before i.e. Weds 28/2 & Thurs 1/3, but we would need to book this fairly soon. Alternatively there is also the option of booking a caravan for a few days either before or after the weekend. Let me know if you are interested in either of these.

I will also co-ordinate car-sharing so let me know when and where you are coming from and if you would like or can offer a lift.

Places are limited, first come first served - put the date in your diary, and contact me at:

Alison.
