I don`t know what prompted me to book Lowstern but to quote “In my extensive experience, fortune favours the absolute freaking idiots” and so it proved, Lowstern is an absolute gem, fantastic facilities with views over the Dales to die for and the best bit is that I do believe it`s Lancashire. We have reciprocal rights and at £5.50 a night, you must go. I was greeted on arrival by Dennis Ibbotson who had opened up the hut and Stephen Blackman hanging his hammock in the grounds Stephen hammock . Over the Saturday evening people arrived in dribs and drabs and things got sociable as people wound down after the working week and started to chill out.
Saturday morning dawned and members dispersed mainly to Robin Proctors Scar and Crummackdale with the High Altitude team of myself, Geoff Townsend and Steve Scott heading for the dizzy heights of Pen Y Gent which was many years ago my first mountain. Hero of the meet award must go to Stephen Blackman who ran off from the hut to meet up with Laura Milichamp, Mark Jones and Bradley Jackson at Trow Gill, except they had gone to Robin Proctors , but undeterred Stephen ran, yes ran up Ingleborough and Pen y Gent looking for them, so not really surprised he looked buggered when he arrived back at the hut later.
In the evening every thing was nice and sociable with people chatting and eating prodigious amounts of Cake CC sociable people We had a blind chocolate tasting and true to it`s elistist routes the most chocolate voted the best by CC members was Prestat, a posh brand that apparently the Queen buys, though some members went for Tesco own brand so obviously the CC is getting some of the lower orders as members.
On Sunday morning people got going pretty early and it was nice that everyone mucked in so willingly to get the hut clean before teams set off to various crags for another day of Yorkshire Limestone.
A big thank you to all who attended and though I cannot mention everyone here is a picture of the full crowd except Steve Scott
