The
Climbers' Club have completed a project to digitise all of their
Journals (1898 to 2005) - 121 volumes in total. The process involved
very high quality scanning and optical character recognition to
produce top quality and word searchable Adobe reader files (pdf).
Copies of these files have been provided for the Club Archives,
Journal Editor and the Web site.
Due to the severe restrictions
under the UK Copyright Law it is not possible to place much of the
content on-line. In addition the files are very large (total
of 20GB) and even with broadband they take ages to download.

If you have provided
articles and/or photographs for the CC Journal and would be
willing to give the Climbers' Club permission to place these
articles and/or photographs on our web site then click on
the right. |

Meanwhile we have placed the following on the web:
-
High quality extracts,
including photographs, from the 1898/1900 (8.4MB) and
1998 (10.2MB) Journals
-
Catalogue of the
Journals with links to CC copyright and
author/photographer permitted compressed extracts (fast to
download but quality of pictures reduced).
Extracts will be added gradually over time.
-
Searchable contents and
index (where provided) pages

To assist legitimate researchers
and our members, the CC have launched a number of services for full
searching and the provision of quality extracts within the bounds
allowed by the UK Copyright Law. These services are:
-
Free word search of the
complete set to identify articles which may be of
interest. A list of Journals, with short text
extracts, will be provided by email. This service
is not too time consuming - 5min/word for the entire
Journal search but may be restricted and response time
will depend on availability of your Web Manager. Use
link on right and complete the short from.
|
 |
-
Chargeable extract
service for both members (discounted) and non-members.
This is restricted under the UK Copyright Laws to 1
article from each Journal for personal or research use
only. Use the link on the right to download an
application form - UK Copyright law requires written and
signed paperwork.
