This was a very busy meet with around 40 or so people, who belonged to one or other or both the clubs, attending throughout the week.

Saturday night was a storm of noise in the hut as partners were assigned and people worked out mutually acceptable plans. The weather was mainly good except for a couple of unsettled days on Monday and Tuesday. Although the tides were good, the seas were lively for most of the week so even at low tide some places were just wet (Helluva slab first belay was not a place to stand and the trip to Wicca Pillar was rendered impossible). This made for a great backdrop to photos of Sensible Shoes, Astral Stroll and Right Angle amongst others; Sensible Shoes had lots of visits on the strengths of attractive photos last year of Alison Cairns; the Lizard climbs were also popular, and of course all the old favourites at Bosigran had lots of ascents. The week culminated on the Saturday with a female presidential ascent of the Land’s End Long Climb by 4 ropes including the current Pinnacle President Hilary Lawrenson, and 4 ex-presidents, 3 from the PC (Alison Cairns, Fred Reynolds and Val Hennelly) and the CC’s Fiona Sanders. Keith Sanders was official photographer and it was as well there wasn’t a sound track as it was a noisy, gregarious affair. Suffice to say it has some interesting pitches for a V Diff and is a recommended climb in a superb position.

The social scene was also lively; including a trip to the Minack where we had a great show by the Gannets and a slightly disappointing Chorus of Disapproval, an auction on the Tuesday of promises and goods in aid of Community Action Nepal linked into the BMC charity push, an Antarctic slide show by Dave Wynne Jones of an AC Ski Tour in 2012, and the obligatory barbecue on the Friday night, with Iain Peters providing the hardware and practised incendiary skills. On the final Sunday we had a pop up auction (after a couple of hours of deep cleaning}, finding new homes for some very well kept kit donated by local ex-member Jeremy Dugan.

All in all we raised over £1300 for CAN in the course of the week which was a great effort by everyone involved in donating or bidding, and we had a lot of fun with the climbing and socialising in between. The hut has already been reserved for next year, and if you can stand the noise it is a fun and inspiring meet to join.

Eagle eyed will spot this was a ‘very meet’ – apologies for the typo. You can select your own adjective, but I meant to include busy, although sociable, welcoming or lively would be apt as well. One attendee said it was his first meet in 30 years of CC membership and he had enjoyed it so much he might try another!

Your Web Manager has added your “busy” to “very meet”. I should have spotted it.

Sounds an excellent meet – well done!
