The
Climbers Club published its first journal in August 1898. To celebrate the Centenary
of the Club this special edition has been produced which takes some of the best
of that hundred years of writing and climbing tradition.
Words from some of the
leading climbers and writers of their age are brought together in this
anthology. These include Owen Glyn Jones, George Mallory, Arnold Lunn, Menlove
Edwards and Peter Harding.
Many of the articles are historically important accounts
of some of the hardest or most desperate climbs of their age.
This hardback
volume has been distilled from some 113 editions of the Climbers Club Journals
and is edited by Terry Gifford who is Director of the annual International
Festival of Mountaineering Literature.
