My first CC meet and I copped for “organising” it too. This is a really easy job and very well supported by Steve and Misha, thanks guys.

The weather was forecast to be typical of the Lakes and the meet coincided with the Fred Whitton, these may have put a few off but in the end neither compromised the fun. Having a rather poorly whippet meant that I had to dip in and out between dog nursing and vet visits.

Friday saw the arrival of Steve, Peri and Danny. Ron arrived with a kind gift of guidebooks from the FRCC for attendees. We got down to the business of getting to know each other or catching up with old friends.

On Saturday Peri, Steve and Danny headed to Langstrath.

I took the opportunity of a quick solo of Troutdale Pinnacle on my way back to the hut.

Saturday evening saw a meal of vast proportions washed down with a few beers. Poppadoms, Pickles, Quorn Mince Curry, Chickpea Curry, Lamb Curry, Rice, Nan and Boozy Blackcurrant Pastry for afters. The tales got taller and the laughs louder as the evening wore on.

Sunday was one of those days where it all looks wetter than it actually is, enough moisture in the air to keep the brave Fred riders from overheating but not enough to soak all the crags. Danny and I went to the ever reliable Shepherds Crag, found the most sheltered bit and climbed Creepy Jesus, Kransic Crack Direct and a Fishers Folly MGC combo before retiring, damp to the caff then heading home happy having gone climbing and made new friends. In the late afternoon, the sun shone and the wind blew, perfect drying conditions. Presley had recovered so I took him and his 2 pals to Crummock for a walk.

Ian Armstrong

Sadly Ian Armstrong our MC had to shoot off to attend to Presley his dog who he was obviously very worried about, so Peri, Danny and I set out for a wettish weather day, but actually I do not remember it raining. We wandered up Langstrath with me having some navigation training, and then scrambled up Cams Crag Ridge. Someone (me) spotted an easy climbing line and said lets have a do at that, which actaully led to a slimy ledge followed by a slimy groove, so we had to set up a belay, gear up and Danny led the groove which was probably diff in the dry with approach shoes, but with Castrol GTX moss and in Big Boots it was thought provoking.

We then carried on over into Combe Ghyll and did Inside Route, this really is great fun and highly reccomended.
