Well, it was more like a late winter meet, than an early spring meet, on the Saturday morning when we awoke to snow and a bitter wind. Determined to climb, Andy, Steve, Alex, Charlie, Emma and Alison headed to Porth Saint, Rhoscolyn. It was likened to Stanage-by-the-sea, but it did the job, providing a sunny aspect, lovely views and routes that were short enough to ensure neither belayer, nor leader got too cold. We ticked off a number of routes up to E2. Later on, we all headed over to Sea Cave Zawn. Alex providing a photo opportunity (which I failed to make the most of) on Fanfare and several of us skipping up Symphony Crack, yes, only a Diff, but a great fun route in a superb position. Meanwhile, Ian had chosen a big scrambling day on Tryfan to save an injured shoulder.
Saturday night was relaxed and sociable – a feast of a meal with everyone contributing, followed by a short waddle into the sitting room, idle chit chat and guessing games around the roaring fire.
Sunday morning, after a thorough cleaning of the hut (of course), we headed for Tremadog which turned out to be a glorious day of climbing. Alex and Steve teamed up and did Poor Mans Peuterey and Scratch Arete, Charlie, Emma and Ian did Kestrel Cracks and Shadrach, Andy and I did Barbarian and Fingerlicker. Well, in truth, Andy did Fingerlicker in fine style, and I swung on the rope to get his gear out.
I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and it was a real pleasure to meet more CC members and catch up with those I already know. Hope to see you all again soon.
