Ice Fest Meet - Argentiere la Bessee

Date: Saturday 6th January 2018 to Saturday 13th January 2018
Venue: Gite Papillion

Argentiere la Bessee. – The annual CC/Joint Clubs Ice fest Meet. Dates January 6th to 13th (most will fly home on the 14th).

The location has moved after 8 consecutive Meets to Rjukan (we have to rest the access points to the Vemork Bridge and the Gorge sooner or later).

The Gite Papillion in Argentiere La Bessee awaits us, with a bed, breakfast AND evening meal for circa 40 euros, per day/night (could even be less)? More info asap. Regarding the Rjukan Gjestergard - cooking evening meals and washing pans, forget it! We’re concentrating on the ice climbing.

We need to book the Gite we’ll use as our accommodation in this pretty little town pretty soon, with positive names, so please tell me what your situation is, this coming ice climbing season? Are you in or out? If you need any more info, please email me?

Some of us have already decided to come! The Meet dates are the 6th to the 13th is the Meet and almost all of us who are already booked, are coming home on the 14th. But remember, as always, you come and go as you please, but remember we have to book the accommodation accordingly.

Our usual planning and organising process is starting, although a little slow, so please email me, then get on the airlines websites and get the flights booked.

We usually fly from Edinburgh and Easy Jet has a flight (return) departing at 0940 on the 6th January (nice timings coming back on the 14th as well) which departs Malpensa at 20.20, getting in at 21.50) and get the flights booked. There are other airlines and other departure airports to be used, but ensure your Car Share team can all meet up in one of three airports in Milan?

Get your usual climbing partner(s) organised into your car share team and let’s get the show on the road.

Anyone who CAN’T or WON’T come, tough luck, but if you’ve had a Spreadsheet (No. 4)? and you’ve already decided not to come, your place will continue to be advertised on the Spreadsheets, deleted only when you finally confirm the bad news. So please don’t delay in making up your minds. Booking the Gite is crucial and our local man in town, Murray Hamilton will be waiting to pass the list of names and dates over to the owners for me.

I’ll try to answer as many questions about the flights possible, the Gite and the Meet, as I can. ‘The rest is conversation’. (Thanks – Gordon Gekko – Wall Street)

Nearer the time, our usual dos and don’ts info will come around, to advise on the best of everything for us, to ensure we behave, and how we must represent the Clubs in the best possible way. We will be arriving at the very end of the Annual International Ice Fest meet, so good tracks and hooking holes will be all around!

More details later. Get your name(s) ratified on the Meet by a mail or call to me (my details in all the three Clubs’ handbooks).

I’m ready to get cracking now. Let’s not delay. Sharpen those tools.

Best regards, Smiler Cuthbertson UPDATE 23/11/2017 An update from Smiler about the Argentiere La Bessee ice meet. There may be room for an additional team of two climbers on the meet. This would need to be arranged quickly, and would be dependent on additional beds available at the gite remaining unbooked, so if interested contact Smiler QUICKLY, and he will check if the beds are still available. Complete teams of two only please, who must both be members of the CC, AC, SMC, or FRCC.
