Peak Mix and Match and Cake The Downes Hut

Date: Friday 7th October 2016 to Sunday 9th October 2016
Venue: Downes, Froggatt, Peak District
Time: Arrive Friday evening

This meet replaces the meet originally planned for the Yorkshire Dales. For those who haven't been to a Mix and Match Meet before, the idea is to have a sociable meet where people dont turn up with pre-arranged climbing partners - the whole idea is you come along and the meet organiser (i.e. me) will ask you in advance what sort of grade range you want to climb at, then pair you up with someone climbing in a similar range each day - its up to you and your buddy to then negotiate your venue. As I know how polarised people are about limestone and grit, I will also try to take that into account if possible. Its a great way to get to know more people in the club, and its always fun.

We will be based in the Downes hut just below Froggat Edge and within easy walking distance of the Grouse and and Chequers pubs. October will be peak grit season if the weather is nice, with the usual suspects on the eastern edges plus the Roaches and Hen Cloud within easy driving distance, however for the limestone addicts there is also quality limestone a short drive away on High Tor, Cheedale, Dovedale, Beeston Tor and the Manifold Valley. There's even an aid route inside Thor's Cave!

PLUS: Did you notice the bit about cake? Bring a cake with you! Something nice, not a Mr Kipling from the Spar on the way over. 😉 Go on, be daring, do some baking, or visit your local proper bakery. Or since this is Yorkshire bring some proper cheese instead coz we all know cake and cheese go together.
